Hiking

A Great Starting Point

Hiking is the most popular activity in the Cairngorms, and with the stunning scenery it’s no surprise!

Nethy Bridge is a fantastic starting point and is close to many well marked hikes. There is a massive variety of both difficulty and scenery. Ask us for any advice you need, we can also help you out with maps.

There are a couple of walks we would recommend.

The 7 mile round trip to Loch Garten from Granite Cottage is a perfect walk to stretch your legs and build up an appetite before dinner. The path is easy to follow and not too strenuous. It follows part of The Speyside Way and then splits away into the Abernethy Forest to finally reach the loch.

If you don’t mind a little drive before you hike, Loch An Eilein is definitely worth a visit. It has a number of walks with spectacular views across the loch and mountains. It has been voted the number 1 picnic spot in the UK, and for good reason. However, don’t worry if you leave the hamper at home, there is a cafe nearby for vital refuelling.

WalkHighlands.co.uk is a great website showing a whole range of hikes in the local area.
