Want to ditch the car?

Well, the Cairngorms is one of the top places in the UK to get on your bike. Whether you want a leisurely day out or something a little more hard core, Nethy Bridge offers challenges for all. There’s a variety of cycle routes, the roads are quiet and the National Cycle Network is close by.

The hotly anticipated Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trail Centre is now open and promises to deliver excellent mountain bike trails for everyone.

The two purpose built trails are at the heart of the Glenlivet Estate, about 25 minutes drive away from the cottage. The blue trail offers an introduction to mountain biking and the red provides more of a challenge for experienced riders.

They also offer bike rental when the cafe is open.

Glenlivet Estate has six other marked cycle routes that explore the wider estate, using a combination of moorland track, forest track, farmland and public road.

If you want to stay closer to home, then mountain bike hire is also available in Aviemore.

We have a large secure garage and guests are more than welcome to store their bikes throughout their stay.

Watersports

Nethy Bridge really is a great base for all watersport activities.

The River Spey is the perfect setting for a leisurely kayak. However, be warned – there are a good number of entertaining Grade II rapids downstream of Grantown-on-Spey.

There are two fantastic watersport centres located in Loch Insh and Loch Morlich where you can hire kayaks, windsurfs and sailing boats.

White water rafting is also a popular activity if you are feeling adventurous. The rapids on the River Findhorn offers some of the best rafting in the UK. There are plenty of companies in Aviemore offering trips out.

Quad Biking

Guided quad-biking tours are available at the Rothiemurchus Centre. They have numerous tracks and trails that traverse the ancient pine forest, birch woodland and moorland.

Golf

Abernethy Golf Club is less than a mile away. Visitors are welcome and will love the friendly course and relaxed atmosphere. The 9 hole course also has a clubhouse where you can hire clubs and have a much needed refreshment.

Boat of Garten Golf Course is less than 15 minutes drive from Granite Cottage. This really is a hidden gem.  It is a spectacular course, perfect for intermediate and advanced golfers. It is an 18 hole course that is beautifully cared for. Visitors are always welcome.

Spey Valley Golf club is 20minute drive away and also overs a great test with fantastic fews. The course is made famous by Brooks Koepka winning here to secure his European tour card. A fantastic challenge
